About
Yohan J. John joined the Kempner Institute in 2024. As Science Writer, he communicates the Kempner’s scientific and technological innovations, and also provides assistance with grant writing. John brings his years of experience as a computational neuroscientist to this role: prior to joining the Kempner, he was a research assistant professor in the Neural Systems Laboratory at Boston University, where he developed biological neural network models of cognitive-emotional interactions in health and disease. In parallel with basic research, he has also engaged in popular scientific writing, conveying ideas from neuroscience, machine learning, and philosophy of mind to a general audience. John holds a PhD in Cognitive and Neural Systems from Boston University, an MSc in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, and a BSc in Physics from St Stephen’s College, Delhi University.
Research Focus
John’s interests include scientific communication and outreach, dynamical systems approaches to brain and behavior, the mathematical foundations of intelligence, and philosophy of mind.
