Affiliations & Acknowledgements in Publications

Affiliations

Any work supported in whole or part with Kempner Institute resources, including financial support or use of the Kempner Institute computational cluster, should include the Kempner Institute in the acknowledgments and be listed in your affiliations.

When naming the Kempner Institute in your list of affiliations, please use the Institute’s full name: Kempner Institute for the Study of Natural and Artificial Intelligence at Harvard University. If space demands, this may be shorted to Kempner Institute at Harvard University, or in cases with very limited space Kempner Institute, Harvard University.

Acknowledgements

For acknowledgments, we suggest the following wording: “This work has been made possible in part by a gift from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Foundation to establish the Kempner Institute for the Study of Natural and Artificial Intelligence at Harvard University.”

If space demands, this may be shortened to: “This work has been made possible in part by a gift from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Foundation to establish the Kempner Institute at Harvard University.”

Work partially undertaken at a different institution

Please note the following guidelines for when work was partially undertaken at a previous or different institution:

  • If minimal work happened at the Kempner (e.g. analysis/code was complete, only needed minor editing and posting) then you should acknowledge only the prior institution.
  • If more than minimal work (e.g. work beyond light editing of completed manuscript) was completed at the Kempner then you should acknowledge both.
  • In either case, you should list both your current affiliation at Kempner, and the site in which you initiated the project (however that is accomplished in the context of where you are publishing).
