About

Shani is a post-bac researcher in Bernardo Sabatini’s lab. She studied biophysics and mathematics at Amherst College and was a member of the rowing team. She conducted computational biophysics research in the Marcus Lab, evaluating the extent to which AI protein folding tools can accurately predict binding affinities and signal specificities across a highly conserved protein family. She is passionate about the intersection of experimental data, AI pipelines, and statistical algorithms to advance biological research for human health applications.

Research Focus

Shani’s current research at the Kempner is focused on developing computational/machine learning methods to further decode sequence-structure-function relationships within protein-protein interactions in neural synapses. The long term objective is to build a robust protein engineering pipeline to generate potential drugs for neurological disorders.
