Michal Balcerak
Kempner Institute Research Fellow
About
Michal Balcerak is a research fellow at Harvard University’s Kempner Institute for the Study of Natural and Artificial Intelligence. He received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Zurich, advised by Bjoern Menze, and holds an MSc in Physics from the University of Goettingen and a BSc in Physics from Jagiellonian University. He previously conducted research in Petros Koumoutsakos’s lab at Harvard and with the ATLAS experiment at CERN.
Research Focus
Michal Balcerak studies objective landscapes and the geometry of learned data representations as foundations for generative modeling. His research develops ways to learn and navigate these landscapes to discover novel solutions and adapt to new goals. At the Kempner Institute, he will investigate how this perspective can help solve challenging inverse problems and advance optimization-based reasoning.
