About

Deborah Apsel Lang leads the Kempner Institute’s communications and content strategy. Prior to joining the Kempner in February 2023, Deborah was director of communications at the University of Pennsylvania’s Institute for Urban Research (Penn IUR), where she led communications strategies to advance Penn IUR as a global leader in cross-disciplinary urban-focused research, instruction, and civic engagement. Prior to her work at Penn, Deborah led her own consultancy practice focused on communications strategies to support foundations, non-profits/NGOs and policy organizations, with U.S.-based and global clients that included the Omidyar Network, World Bank, Population Council and Westly Foundation. Deborah earned her MPP from the University of California, Berkeley and a BA in English and Biology from Brown University.
