Mikail Khona obtained his PhD in Physics from MIT, with a focus on deep learning and computational neuroscience. He acquired his bachelor’s degree in engineering physics and mathematics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
Research Focus
Mikail Khona aims to develop tools and approaches to interpret and improve large foundational models. He aims to take an empirical approach, studying phenomena in these models and reverse-engineering them to identify their origins, attempting to trace these behaviors back to specific aspects of the model’s architecture, training data, or learning algorithms. This approach can improve the robustness and efficiency of these models and inform future model design. In addition, he is also interested in the intersection of biology and AI and exploring the extent to which deep neural networks provide a natural language to describe biological phenomena.
